What is The Hybrid Games?

The Hybrid Games is an indoor arena race built from 10 x 600m runs, 10 workout stations and a 200m sprint finish, entered solo or as a doubles pair. That is 6.2km of running before a single rep, and the station order never changes from event to event. The series sets no qualifying standard and no official cut-off time, so anyone can start, and everyone meets the loaded second half in the same state.

Five categories are on sale at every event: Male Solo, Female Solo, Male Doubles, Female Doubles and Mixed Doubles. A pair splits each station however it likes, but both athletes run every run together, and starting a station before your partner arrives costs 2 minutes. The dumbbell snatch is the one place doubles gets harder rather than easier, at 100 reps between two athletes against 50 solo. Mixed Doubles race at the male load everywhere except that snatch, where each athlete may use their own weight. Seven age brackets run from 16 to 22 at the youngest up to 58 and over, and a pair is placed on the average of both athletes.

Training for The Hybrid Games?

The 600m repeat is the engine of this race, because a short run tempts you into racing all 10 of them and the bill lands at the dumbbell snatch. Train that exact distance off short recoveries, put numbers rather than feelings on the air bike, the rower and the SkiErg, and build the grip that has to survive five loaded stations in a row.
