What is Deadly Dozen?

The Deadly Dozen is a hybrid fitness race held on an athletics track, combining 12 x 400m runs (called Journeys) with 12 functional exercise stations (called Labours), completed in sequence with no rest between them. That is roughly 4.8km of running plus 12 stations, and everything is trainable with just a kettlebell, dumbbell and weight plate.

What to expect at Deadly Dozen Texas 2025

  • You run a 400m lap, complete one Labour on the infield grass, then run the next lap, repeating until you have done all 12 Journeys and 12 Labours.
  • The Labours use only a kettlebell, dumbbell, plate or bodyweight: farmers carry, goblet squat, devils press, kettlebell swing, push press, snatch, thruster, lateral lunge, burpees and plate ground-to-overhead among them.
  • Athletes start in small waves of two to four every few minutes, so it feels more like a focused community track day than a crowded arena event.
  • Grip endurance is the hidden limiter: the carry, snatch, thruster and plate ground-to-overhead all tax your hands, and most time is lost in the back half.

You can enter Solo, Pairs (partner waits while you work) or Relay as a team of four. Weight standards differ by gender. Scaling is built in: if you cannot complete a Labour to standard after warnings, the rep or distance is adjusted and your result is marked "(s)" for scaled rather than a DNF, so you always get a finish time.
