The next HYROX World Championship is the PUMA HYROX World Championships 2027 in Hong Kong, from 10 to 13 June 2027. You qualify by placing, not by time: every Pro division and every Mixed Doubles division at every HYROX event this season offers at least one slot per age group, and the slot goes to the highest-placed athlete in that age group who does not already hold one.
That last sentence is the whole system, and it is why the question most people type into a search box, “what time do I need?”, has no published answer. There is no qualifying standard to beat. There is a race to pick, an age group to win (or nearly win), and a 48-hour email you must not miss.
This guide covers where and when the 2027 edition runs, how age-group slots are allocated and passed down, the rules that quietly cost people their place, how to work out a realistic qualifying time for the race you choose, and how the separate Elite 15 route works. Every rule below comes from HYROX’s own World Championships page , the Hong Kong event page and the official HYROX Season 26/27 rulebooks .
Key Takeaways
- The 2027 HYROX World Championships run from 10 to 13 June 2027 at AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong, the first edition in the Asia-Pacific region.
- HYROX publishes no qualifying time. Slots are awarded by placing within your division and age group at a qualifying event.
- Every Pro and Mixed Doubles division at every HYROX event offers at least one World Championship slot per age group. Athletes aged 60 and over qualify through Open instead.
- The offer arrives by email two days after the event’s last day, and you have 48 hours to accept and pay. There are no extensions.
- Events up to the weekend of 16 May 2027 qualify for Hong Kong. Races after that count towards the 2028 World Championships.
- You race the World Championships in the age group you qualified in, even if you have a birthday before June.
- Elite 15 is a separate route: the top three at each of the five Elite Series races earn a place, and only the Elite 15 field races for the overall title and prize money.
Where and When Is the HYROX World Championship?
The 2027 HYROX World Championship takes place from 10 to 13 June 2027 at AsiaWorld-Expo, next to Hong Kong’s airport at Chek Lap Kok. It is the first time the championships have gone to the Asia-Pacific region, and HYROX describes the field as the top 0.5% of its athletes. The age-group races run in a different hall from the Elite races, so spectators may need a different ticket for each.
The previous edition, in 2026, was held at Strawberry Arena in Stockholm, which HYROX’s own Stockholm event page calls “the home of the 2026 PUMA HYROX World Championships”. We keep a page on the 2026 championships in Stockholm if you want the venue details.
The World Championships close each HYROX season. That matters for planning, because the season you qualify in is the season that ends in Hong Kong. Today, in October 2026, you are inside the 2026/27 qualifying season.
HYROX has not yet published the race day for each division. The Hong Kong page says the schedule will be announced, and that individual start times are linked about three days before the event.
How HYROX World Championship Qualification Works
Age-group qualification for the HYROX World Championship runs through ordinary HYROX races. Any athlete who starts a regular HYROX event can qualify, and the slots are handed out by finishing position inside each age group, not by a time standard.
Which Divisions Carry Slots
HYROX’s championships page says every Pro division and every Mixed Doubles division at every HYROX event offers a minimum of one slot per age group. The Season 26/27 singles rulebook and the Hong Kong page both describe it as one slot per age group, so plan on one and treat any extra as a bonus. Some events also list their slots on their own event page under “Worlds Slots”.
Doubles is wider than that one sentence suggests. The Season 26/27 Doubles rulebook sets out qualification for Men’s and Women’s Doubles, in both Open and Pro, as well as for Mixed Doubles, and says the number of slots in each Doubles division is announced on each event’s page. HYROX’s own championships FAQ uses Men’s Doubles plus Mixed Doubles as its example of qualifying in two divisions. So if you race Doubles, check the event page before you enter.
The one exception is age. Athletes aged 60 and over qualify through the Open division only, even if they raced Pro during the season, and they race Open weights, repetitions and distances at the championships.
If you are racing solo and you are under 60, that means Pro. An Open finish will not earn you a slot, however fast it is. If you are weighing up that step, our guide to HYROX Pro vs Open covers how to tell whether you are ready.
Which Age Group You Race In
The Season 26/27 age groups are Under 24 (16 to 24), then five-year bands from 25 to 29 up to 85 to 89. At a regular race, your age group is set by your age on race day.
At the World Championships it works differently. You race in the age group you qualified in, full stop, even if you move up a bracket before June.
What You Race at the Championships
At the World Championships everyone races Pro weights and repetitions, with two exceptions: Mixed Doubles and the 60+ age groups race Open. If you qualified through Pro, nothing changes. Start times are set by division and age group, then by your time at the race where you qualified, and they cannot be changed. Check the full Pro and Open loads before you commit to a block, because a Pro sled push is a different station from an Open one.
Do You Need an Athlete Licence?
No. HYROX states that every registered athlete is eligible for an age-group slot, licence or not. The licence does change how far a slot can roll down to you, which is the next section.
The Rolldown: How a Slot Reaches You
The rolldown is how a HYROX World Championship slot moves past athletes who decline it, and it is the reason a podium finish is not always needed. The first offer goes, two days after the event’s last day, to the highest-ranked athlete in the division and age group who is not already qualified. That athlete has 48 hours from the moment the email is sent to accept and complete payment. HYROX is explicit that your entry is secured only once the payment has gone through.
Anyone who has already accepted a 2027 slot in that division is skipped, whether they qualified at an earlier age-group race or through the Elite route. If the top athlete declines or lets the 48 hours run out, the slot moves to the next athlete in the official finishing order.
The Licence Cap
This is the part most people do not know. HYROX treats licence holders and non-licence holders differently as the slot rolls down:
- Licence holders can be passed over in any number. The slot keeps moving down through licensed athletes who decline.
- Non-licence holders get a capped number of offers. The Season 26/27 rulebook limits it to two non-licence holders per race class, per event, whether they accept or decline.
- Once two non-licence holders have been offered the slot, the allocation for that age group closes, even if athletes further down would have taken it.
HYROX says this is aimed at the 25 to 39 age groups, where many licensed athletes race Pro events to collect Elite Series ranking points and often decline age-group slots. Letting those offers pass freely stops the chain from being blocked early, which makes it more likely the slot reaches an ordinary age-grouper.
The practical reading: if you do not hold a licence, you are effectively competing to be one of the first two unlicensed finishers in your age group who has not already qualified.
Doubles Teams
In Doubles, both partners receive their own offer email, both must accept, and both must pay their own share of the ticket inside the same 48 hours. If only one of you accepts, the slot passes to the next team. HYROX’s advice is to agree before the race what you will do if the email arrives.
The Rules That Cost People Their Slot
Most lost slots are lost on administration. These are the HYROX World Championship rules for the 2026/27 season that are worth knowing before you race a qualifier:
- Your registration data must be right. The offer goes to the email address on your race registration, so it has to be personal and unique. A shared or generic address (such as info@) makes the offer fail, and Doubles partners need two different addresses. Corrections must reach HYROX within 14 days of the qualifying event.
- Three declines and you are out. Decline or ignore an offer three times in the same division and you receive no further offers in that division for the rest of the season.
- One open offer at a time. If you have a pending 48-hour offer from an earlier race, you cannot receive a new one at the current event until the first closes.
- One forfeit per division per season. You may give back an accepted slot once and try to requalify, but the money is not refunded and the original slot cannot be reclaimed if the second attempt fails.
- One slot per division. You can qualify in singles and in Doubles, or in two different Doubles divisions (HYROX’s example is Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles), but not twice in the same division, even in different age groups. If start times clash at the championships, there is no refund and no change.
- No transfers, no refunds, no partner swaps. Registrations cannot be transferred or refunded, and a registered Doubles partner cannot be substituted. A pair that splits up has to use the forfeit in point 4, with both partners confirming it to HYROX before either tries to requalify.
There is also a weather clause. The rulebook lets HYROX declare an event, a day or part of a day “Out of Ranking” for World Championship qualification if conditions such as wet turf or extreme weather materially affect performance or safety.
The Birthday Rule
Because your championship age group is locked to the one you qualified in, a birthday can work for or against you. HYROX gives the example itself: if you are 39 at your qualifier and accept a 35 to 39 slot, you race 35 to 39 in Hong Kong and cannot later qualify for 40 to 44.
To race as a 40 to 44, you would have to decline the 35 to 39 offer while you are still 39, race again after you turn 40, and accept that slot instead. Alternatively, you can use your one forfeit, at the cost of the entry fee. Either way, decide before the email arrives, because 48 hours is not long to think about it.
What a HYROX World Championship Qualifying Time Looks Like
There is no HYROX World Championship qualifying time. Neither the championships page nor the Season 26/27 rulebooks publish one, so any fixed figure you see quoted is somebody’s estimate. The qualifying time is whatever it takes to be the first athlete in your Pro age group at your chosen race who accepts the slot.
That number changes with every event, every age group and every year. A big city race with a deep 30 to 34 field can need a far faster time than a smaller race in an older bracket. So the useful question is what it took to win a slot at this race last season.
You can answer that yourself in about 10 minutes:
- Pick the event. Choose a race on the 2026/27 HYROX calendar that falls on or before the 16 May 2027 cut-off.
- Find its previous edition on results.hyrox.com and filter to your division (Pro, Mixed Doubles, or Open if you are 60 or over) and your age group.
- Read the top few times, not just the winner’s. Slots roll down past athletes who are already qualified or who decline, so the times in second to fifth show you the realistic range.
- Compare it with your own number. The HYROX finish time predictor gives you an estimate from your current fitness to set against that range.
For context on where your age group sits across the whole field, our breakdown of HYROX times by age group shows how the median shifts decade by decade. A World Championship slot sits a long way to the fast side of those medians, which is consistent with HYROX’s own top 0.5% description.
The Elite 15 Route to the HYROX World Championship
The Elite 15 is a separate start wave at the HYROX World Championship, and it is the only race in which an athlete can win the overall title, which the rulebook calls World Champion of Fitness Racing, and prize money. Age-group winners become Age Group World Champions, with no prize money. Prize money for each edition is announced in that year’s Elite 15 Guide.
Getting into Elite 15 runs on a points leaderboard, not on single races. Since 22 June 2026, HYROX ranks licensed athletes over a rolling 365-day window, counting their best five results in singles and their best three in Doubles, with ties broken on the strength of the field. An active HYROX Athlete Licence is required to earn points, and Elite Doubles pairs must share a nationality. The full points tables are on HYROX’s Elite Series qualification page .
About 21 days before each Elite Series race, the leaderboard locks and invitations go out. For the first race, that is the top 15 in each division. From the second race onwards, each Elite 15 field is the top 14 on the leaderboard plus the winner of the previous race’s Challenger 15, the race for athletes ranked 16 to 30, which runs on the same stage.
The 2026/27 Elite Series calendar has five races:
| Race | Venue | Dates |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Hamburg | 30 to 31 October 2026 |
| 2 | London | 3 to 4 December 2026 |
| 3 | Bangkok | 11 to 12 February 2027 |
| 4 | Las Vegas | 12 to 13 March 2027 |
| 5 | Lyon | 13 to 14 May 2027 |
The top three at each of these races earn a World Championship slot, and if one of them has already qualified, the place passes to the next athlete from that same race. There is no Challenger 15 racing at the World Championships, so everyone who gets there through this route races the Elite 15 format.
Two consequences for age-groupers. An athlete who wins an Elite slot cannot race an age-group division at the championships, so an age-group entry they already hold is voided and its fee refunded. This is the one exception HYROX states to its no-refund rule, and it is written into both the championships page and the rulebook. That age-group slot goes as a one-time offer to the next eligible athlete from the original race. And Challenger 15 athletes are free to accept normal age-group slots, because there is no Challenger race at the championships.
Planning a Qualification Season
A HYROX World Championship plan starts from the cut-off and works backwards. Every 2026/27 event up to the weekend of 16 May 2027 holds slots for Hong Kong, so that is your deadline, and everything after it belongs to 2028.
A few planning decisions follow from the rules above:
- Race more than one qualifier if you can. One race is one roll of the dice on who else turns up in your age group. Two or three attempts spread across the season give you more chances.
- Leave space between qualifiers. Because a pending offer blocks a new one, two races too close together can mean the second result never produces an offer. The first offer only closes about four days after the event’s last day: two days before it is sent, then 48 hours to answer.
- Train at the weights you will race. Pro at your qualifier and Pro in Hong Kong, unless you are 60 or over or racing Mixed Doubles. Build the block around those loads, not Open ones.
- Settle the money and the travel before the email. HYROX has not published the 2027 entry price, and you have 48 hours to pay once the offer lands. Doubles partners each pay their own share.
- Fix your registration details now. Your own email address, your correct date of birth and nationality. A wrong detail is the cheapest way to lose a slot you raced for.
If you are building from scratch, how long to train for HYROX covers how many weeks a block realistically needs before a target race.
FAQ
You qualify by placing in your age group at a regular HYROX race during the season. Every Pro and Mixed Doubles division at every event offers at least one slot per age group, offered first to the highest-placed athlete who is not already qualified. You then have 48 hours to accept and pay. Athletes aged 60 and over qualify through Open instead.
Only if you are 60 or over. For every other age group, individual qualification runs through the Pro division, and athletes aged 60 and above qualify through Open and race Open weights at the championships. Mixed Doubles also carries slots, and it races Open weights at the championships.
There is no published qualifying time. Slots go by placing, so the time you need is whatever earns the slot in your division and age group at the race you choose. Look up that race's previous edition on results.hyrox.com, filter to your age group, and read the top few times to see the realistic range.
Hong Kong, from 10 to 13 June 2027, at AsiaWorld-Expo near the airport. It is the first HYROX World Championship held in the Asia-Pacific region. The 2026 edition was held at Strawberry Arena in Stockholm.
Not for an age-group slot. HYROX says every registered athlete is eligible, licensed or not. The difference is the rolldown: a slot can pass through any number of licence holders, but only two non-licence holders per race class at each event receive an offer. The Elite 15 route does require an active Athlete Licence.
At least one per age group in each Pro and Mixed Doubles division, and in the Open divisions for the 60+ age groups. HYROX's championships page says a minimum of one, and some events list their slots on the event page. Separately, each of the five Elite Series races sends its top three to the Elite 15 at the World Championships.
Conclusion
Qualifying for the HYROX World Championship comes down to placing well at the right race. For Hong Kong in June 2027, that means a Pro age-group result (or Mixed Doubles, or Open if you are 60 or over) at a race held on or before 16 May, high enough that the slot reaches you, and an inbox you check for the 48 hours after it does.
So the work is concrete. Pick one or two qualifiers. Look up what the top of your age group ran there last season. Train at Pro weights towards that range. Then make sure the email address on your entry is your own.
The part a rule page cannot do is the months in between, when the block meets your actual weeks and the qualifier date stays fixed while everything else moves.
That is where Kracey comes in. Your coach is an AI HYROX coach that lives in Telegram, reads your training through intervals.icu, and messages you first after a session rather than waiting to be opened. Tell it your qualifier date and it periodises towards that race. After the race, paste your result from results.hyrox.com into the chat and it reads your eight runs, eight stations and Roxzone split by split. The first 14 days are free with no card, and they start once your coach can actually see your training.
